Prof. Ibrahim Haruna Lipumba
Best known for his involvement in the political arena, CUF chairman Professor Ibrahim Lipumba, was born in Tabora on 6 June 1952, and holding a doctorate in Economics from Stanford University. He is, with no doubt, a prominent scholar (professor of economics). He has held a number of positions in the field of education, as a University Professor both in the United States and at home; and as a freelance economist -having been the economic adviser to the Ugandan and Tanzanian governments 80s and 90s. Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad
Seif Sharif Hamad, better known as Maalim Seif, was born on 22 October 1943. He is currently the secretary-general of the Civic United Front (CUF). Having served in different positions in both the government of Zanzibar and the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) between 1977 and 1988, Maalim Seif was expelled from CCM, after disputes with the chairman Julius Nyerere on matters concerning the interests of Zanzibar in the Union, imprisoned for three years (May 1989 – November 1991), and raising to be the leading politician in Tanzania ever since. Juma Duni Haji
His political carrier has earned him a label Babu (grandfather), a two time prisoner of conscience under CCM’s autocracy. He is the deputy secretary for Zanzibar and also the director of finance. Ismail Jussa Ladhu
Since 2006, Ismail Jussa has been an official spokesperson and the head of Foreign Affairs and International Relations for the the Civic United Front (CUF). A lawyer by profession and a politician by practice, Jussa is one among the young volunteers who entered very early in CUF struggle for democracy and human rights.
